Really? Light Skin vs. Dark Skin?
SO, on Twitter this morning..a handful of my followers were discussing light skin vs. dark skin. I get so frustrated when this topic comes up. Now, I hate classifying my complexion so I simply don't. Just like I don't classify my hair texture or anything else that is just stupid. I feel as if we as African Americans have already taken enough discrimination from other races for YEARS, so why must we discriminate upon ourselves? I went to a forum that one of my friends had a few weeks ago and it was about the upbringing of African American females to be exact. The speaker that she had was dope, and I really wish I could tell you everything that she said, but after the forum was over, I felt as if every female in that room had a better value of themselves. And it wasn't just talk about skin color, it was some relationship advice thrown in there as well as hair talk and other issues that African Americans face within themselves. To make a long story short, your skin color doesn't make you beautiful, loving yourself and not giving damn about what others think about you makes you beautiful. People don't understand why I talk about my hair so much or why I post 10000 pics of my hair. I'm all for the upbring of women, I hope that maybe if I show love to the qualities of myself, then others would too instead of letting what society thinks bring them down. I wish that we as women (not just African Americans) but EVERY woman could awknowledge other women. A friendly smile would even do. Stop letting society tell you that having nappy hair is "bad" or that having a "big or small butt" isn't acceptable. Everybody..love who YOU are. Your skin, your curves, your lips, your hair, your eyes, YOURSELF. And I know for a fact that i'm not perfect, but everything that I don't have makes me ME. And knowing that there is only one ME in the world out of 6 billioooooon people is a true virtue. I hope that you all can have the same mindset.
